Beautiful Hand Made Snowflakes To Decorate Your Windows!
Paper snowflakes are the perfect way to decorate your home or business during the chilly winter months. I have been cutting snowflakes for years now striving to perfect the elegant contours and sharp angles that produce the beautifully delicate snowflakes seen on this site. In nature, snowflakes are formed as water in the air freezes forming beautiful crystalline patterns. It is said that no two snowflakes are alike, each is completely unique. Paper snowflakes are the same way, each of my snowflakes are handcrafted into uniquely intricate shapes resulting in a wide array of interesting designs.
Snowflakes are created by a technique known as scherenschnitte (the art of papercutting). Paper is folded in a specific way to produce 5 or 6 sided snowflakes, after the paper is folded, cuts are made through all of the layers, producing the symmetrical quality of the snowflakes. Any kind of paper will work, but the lighter weight papers are easier to cut through. My favorite kind paper to use are origami paper, or the cheapest copier paper. These papers hold a crease well, and are fairly easy to cut through. While cutting my snowflakes, I use regular paper cutting scissors (I have seen titanium blade scissors at the store, and have been tempted every time to buy them, but haven't yet. The cheap ones work just fine.) I do use cuticle scissors with a curved blade when I cut the small snowflakes. I have heard of people using x-acto knives to cut their snowflakes, but I have found that nice sharp scissors are more than sufficient. Snowflakes are a fun way to celebrate winter and to decorate the windows of your home.
